The Modern Fall Table

How To Host a Magazine-Worthy Dinner Party

Happy Friday, y’all!

On Wednesday I was contributing to the fabulous La Dolce Vita blog on how to throw a killer and stress-free dinner party.  I used an image from Domaine Home of a carefully…but effortlessly…styled dinner party table in the post, and I can’t get it out of my mind.

The creamy white table paired with classic white dishes and napkins, simple glasses, bold flatware…and that “runner” of easy-going florals and succulents.  I am in love.  I had to figure out an easy way to take this image and translate it into my life. Here is how you can create it at home.

1 /  This West Elm Organic Shaped Dinnerware are the perfect to showcase your dinner menu.

2 /  Pottery Barn’s Belgium Flax Linen Napkins are a necessity in my house.  They are refined for the fanciest dinners, but they also look just as gorgeous unironed and stacked up on a table for a more casual affair.

3 /  Crate and Barrel’s French Stemware is elegant and heavy (for us clumsy folks) all at the same time.  For something that will never go out of style, the price point is hard to beat.

4 /  Oh those florals.  Succulents are making a big comeback, and this table uses them to perfection.  I would plant them in vintage silver coups or mint julep cups so you have the freedom to move them around to get the perfect arrangement.

5 / Earlier this year, Camille Styles and the Nouveau Romantics showed her readers how to do a little floral arranging.  Check this post out for the “how to” and some gorgeous inspiration.

6 /  Oh, that flatware.  I am loving the contrast of the light and airy dishes and linens with the bold florals and heavy flatware.  West Elm has done it again with their Forged Flatware.

7 /  Mint julep cups are always a winner on the table…or anywhere really.

8 /  This Beckett Natural Runner from Crate and Barrel is one you will use often.

9 / And, finally, a personal touch.  You don’t necessarily need a calligrapher to make memorable place cards (although…they certainly do up the ante on any get together).  For a classic place card, use Paper Source’s white folded place cards and print each guest’s name with a beautiful calligraphy font like Feast by Great Lakes Lettering.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
