Home Office Remodel Inspiration

August 27, 2014

Since we decided to move our dining table into what was our formal living area and turn the current dining room into an office, I have the home office remodel on my brain.  I definitely want a space that both Mat and I can enjoy, both functionally and aesthetically.  I want it to be a bright space, but it needs to be grounded with some heavier and organic elements.
Enter my “wish list” plan:

/ My good friend, Katie of Spray Paint and Chardonnay, swears by this Ikea dresser as an office console.  It has multiple drawers that provide great crafting and office organization.  I would use this against the wall behind our desk and desk chair.

/ I would switch out the existing knobs for some brass rings, like these, to add just a bit of punch to a classic white piece.

/ I adore these black lamps, and they would add the perfect contrast between the white dresser/office console.  They would sit on either end of the console.

/ Mat and I have a mounted deer (or maybe an elk) coming our way from his parents.  This will add the perfect masculine touch.

/ This mid-century modern desk needs to come home with me. It’s perfect silhouette is soft enough for me and bold enough for Mat.

/ Enter the desk lamp.  This brass nautical number is exactly what I am looking for.

/ Fun desk accessories are a must.  This Kate Spade dish is a great solution for stray paper clips or pen caps.

/ A pretty inspiration board is a must.  This PB Teen pin board is spot on.

/ A little cheetah never hurt anyone.

/ This West Elm desk chair will help break up the soft white furniture and add another mid-century piece that Mat is sure to love.

/ A pretty lucite and gold file box will add a special pop to the desk top.

/ Since this room was originally a dining room, the ceilings are pretty tall.  I envision placing a beautiful, clean-lined chandelier here — hung higher than usual (so no one hits their head!).

/ Every office needs a calendar.  This one from Anthropologie is divine.

/ Gold stapler.  That is all.

/ PB Teen nailed it again.  These brass shelves are perfection, and I would love one — or even two — in the new office.

/ We already have a traditional leather love seat that we are thinking will go here.  But, if we didn’t, this is a good choice.

/ I love this marble-topped coffee table.  Add in a fun tray and some pretty coffee table books, and your office guests will feel right at home.

/ Since we have fairly dark hardwood floors throughout the house, I think a light cow hide would flatter the design scheme here.  Mat and I have a hard time agreeing on rugs in our home, so I am hoping he likes this one as much as I do!

/ Every space needs some green.  I have a few fiddle leaf figs around our house now, but placing a new one in this Target basket may be exactly what this room needs.

/ And finally, I totally want a giant iMac.  I have my trust MacBook that has treated me very well over the years, but a nice large screen would sure make designing stationery a bit easier.

I hope everyone is having a great week!
