After the Flood: Kitchen Remodel

December 9, 2013

Happy FREEZING COLD Monday!

It has now been five long weeks since our home was hit by the devastating flash flood on Halloween morning.  Along with all of the heartache, stress, and hard decisions, I am doing my very best to focus on the silver lining:  an entire home remodel!  I plan to share my inspiration and progress as we move forward.

And since I love being in the kitchen, I thought we would start there with the inspiration talk.  We currently have (make that had) white shaker-style cabinets, white subway tile backsplash, brushed nickel hardware, and a dark brown and black speckled granite.  We are replacing counters, cabinets, and appliances…and knocking out the top section of a wall to open it up into the family room.

I am thinking gray cabinets and white/gray granite (think carrera marble without the headache of the “marble and a 2 year old” combo).  That is where is get stuck.  Dark gray or light gray?  Uppers white and lowers gray?  Chrome, aged brass, or brushed nickel hardware? Definitely white subway tile again for the back splash, but gray grout or classic white?  Decisions, decisions!

Here are some of the inspiration photos I am drooling over…
